Florida State junior Caroline Westrup, the nation's No. 12 ranked player according to GolfStat, was named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference women's golf team in a vote by the league's nine head coaches. It marks Westrup's third consecutive selection to the all-conference team for the Seminole junior who is among the favorites to earn All-America First-Team honors for the third straight season. Westrup is the only the second player in Florida State women's golf history to earn All-ACC honors three times in her career and the first in school history to earn the honor as both a freshman, a sophomore and a junior.

Never too soon for college football chatter: Now that he has had time to reflect on the spring, new UM defensive coordinator Bill Young is convinced he has the talent to use all of his diverse schemes (including multiple blitz packages) that worked so well at Kansas. Duke makes James hiring official
Duke made it official Tuesday, announcing the addition of Nate James as an assistant men's basketball coach. Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski also announced the elevation of assistants Steve Wojciechowski and Chris Collins to associate head coach.
To that say Nate James was in the right place at the right time would be an understatement. Then again, James had a habit of being where he was needed most, especially on March 10, 2001, in Atlanta when his tip-in sent Maryland packing in an ACC Tournament semifinal as good as any before or after it.
The NCAA yesterday penalized 123 colleges and universities, including Morgan State, for having athletic teams that fell short of academic guidelines. The University of Maryland men's basketball team was below the cutoff score but wasn't penalized because players who left without graduating had already exhausted their eligibility.

The Seminoles improved to 16-3 in games decided by two runs or less, while the sweep avenged last year's series loss at home to the Tigers. Third-ranked Florida State (39-7, 21-5 ACC) captured its second straight win over Clemson (24-22-1, 10-15-1) with a 13-4 victory Saturday night at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. FSU pounded out 17 hits including eight for extra bases on four home runs, three doubles and a triple. So much for the confidence Clemson gained in its five-game winning streak. Saturday’s collapse may have wounded the Tigers’ psyche, but Sunday’s 13-4 trouncing at the hands of fifth-ranked Florida State restored the sense of helplessness Clemson experienced during last month’s record losing streak.

Derek Dietrich collected three hits and drove in five runs to lead Georgia Tech (33-14) to an 11-4 victory over No. 15 Coastal Carolina (38-11) Sunday afternoon at Russ Chandler Stadium. The win helped Tech to its second-straight weekend series victory after defeating Wake Forest in two of three games a week ago.
